Food, Culture & Identity with Romy Gill, Yasmin Khan, Kalpna Woolf and Dan Saladino

Britain is famous for a food culture that thrives on outside influences from other countries. From our infamous love of Chicken-Tikka Masala, to our heartfelt acceptance of the American beef-burger, almost everything we eat has origins in far away places. So what does British food culture really look like? and when we talk about eating local, seasonal food what does that mean? No spices in our curries? No coffee with our breakfast? How can we truly eat locally without giving up the international flavours that we love so much?

Chefs Romy Gill of Romy’s Kitchen, Yasmin Khan of The Saffron Tales, and Kalpna Woolf, founder of Bristol’s 91-ways peace cafe, talk to the Food Programme’s Dan Saladino about what it means to be a chef importing your own food culture into the UK.

Whether it’s celebrating British passion for spicy food, or discussing the fashionable rise of cooking Persian style at home, our panel will explore the important role that chefs play in introducing us to new food cultures, and ask what the impact is on the existing food traditions of a place.

Ticket price includes tasters of a product or dish that each chef feels best represents their food identity.
