Language which Nourishes: Words which Feed under Pain and Pressure

This event takes a very different look at the topics of nourishment, food and alienation. In an infusion of performance poetry and discussion with the audience, the co-creators Alison Phipps, poet Tawona Sithole (University of Glasgow and Glasgow Refugee, Asylum and Migration Network) and Jane Andrews (UWE) explore the themes of suffering and hope and the place of language in our personal and national histories. The event explores the importance of being careful with words in times of pain and pressure, how words have been used to starve or destroy but where vigilance has allowed stories of hope to continue.

A focus on food allows all human beings to connect with each other and from there begin to share selves, languages, cultures and identities. At a time when countries in many parts of the world are addressing how communities can co-exist in harmony with each other, a focus on what brings us together is timely as is an exploration of what makes us who we are.
