Cook ‘n Converse - ‘Made in Knowle West’

The Cook & Converse events bring together those facing significant challenges when it comes to accessing affordable healthy food.

By looking at the local landscape, participants will be searching the hedgerows for elder-flower, blackberries and other local fruit and foraging treats to create summer quenchers and other seasonal delights.

Sharing these drinks and other locally foraged food with their invited guests, local business owners, health workers, and decision-makers from the area we will evoke a discussion about the importance of passing on skills from generation to generation, and potential solutions when it comes to cooking at home using ingredients one can get locally.

The event is split into two parts. In the afternoon we’re inviting Knowle West residents to come foraging for local ingredients and learn how to turn these into summery drinks. We’ll meet at KWMC on Leinster Avenue at 2.30pm before wandering over to the nearby Springfield Allotments for a workshop on foraging fruit and herbs to turn into soft drinks. Spaces for this part of the event are limited, so please get in touch if you would like to join in.

From 6-8pm we’ll be back at KWMC and we’d like to invite a wider audience to come and try the new drinks, as well as food and cooking demonstrations. Together we’ll discuss the benefits of producing food and drinks locally as well as the importance of passing on skills from generation to generation. We’ll also be sharing the findings from Who Decides What’s in my Fridge?, a project exploring the barriers to affordable healthy food in Knowle West.
