2015 archives: THURSDAY EVENTS

It’s day 7 of Food Connections and the city is alive with election fever! If you’ve had enough of the voting madness, escape to one of today’s many amazing events taking place all across Bristol.

This morning we celebrated the amazing food that breastmilk is at ‘Breastmilk, our perfect first food‘ with a series of talks at the Watershed. Experts were on hand from organizations who support mums to breastfeed around Bristol, the first UK city to be given UNICEF Baby Friendly status.

At this morning’s Cook ‘n Converse event, Frugal Foodies, participants will identify barriers to healthy eating and budgeting among low-income households, and then share the food cooked with local business owners, health officials and spokespeople for the area, over a conversation about how these barriers can be overcome.

And, taking place this lunchtime, Pukka Pleasures focuses on making good food tasty, nutritious and part of your every day life. Join Bridget Cole – from local herb heroes, Pukka Herbs – at Wild Oats Wholefoods, where she’ll be sampling her very own hand-crafted healthy sweet treats.

Anyone peckish? The City of Bristol College Catering and Hospitality are hosting a ‘Pop up Lunch’ at the beautiful Eat Drink Bristol Fashion, working with tutors and industry professionals a delightful four course menu will be prepared and served by the team.

This evening, come along to The Fish Shop’s ‘Meet the Producer’ talk with Dorset based fish farmer Hans Hoff. Alongside free fishy nibbles, find out about his super omega 3 trout and hear how he became the only UK farmer of the lesser known Nordic delicacy that is Arctic Charr.

Andy Shipley’s Supper Sense is a fun evening of dining in the dark and rediscovering the pleasure of eating. The experience will be guided by visually impaired host Andy Shipley. Much more than a simple dining in the dark meal, supper sense is a full immersive experience designed around a number of courses, with different sensory activities between each one.

And, join audio storytelling collective ‘In The Dark’ for a late-night sensory extravaganza, Radio Cocktails! Join us for a lovingly curated set of audio adventures, documentaries, stories and other sonic delights, served with a bespoke, one-off cocktail by the expert mixologists of Red Light. With tastes to dazzle and delight and audio to astound, it’s an immersive cocktail experience like no other.

And, if you’ve ever asked the question, “How can we produce and eat more healthy food in the city?, then wonder no longer! CJ Lim, Professor and Author of Food City, will address that very question, exploring urban transformation and discussing how the creation, storage and distribution of food has been, and can again become, a construct for the practice of everyday life.

Plus, at the Apple Boat tonight we have a very special cider tasting, courtesy of Thatchers! There’ll be a range of Thatchers Ciders to try, and you’ll learn all about this west country tipple. No tickets required, just turn up on the night.

And finally, for all those staying up all night to watch the election results, make sure you come and wake yourself up with the incredible early morning Extract and New Dawn Traders Coffee Rave in St Werburghs! We’ll be raving from 7am sharp!

Food Connections finishes up for this year on Saturday, so be sure to make the most of our action-packed last few days! Check out our What’s On page for more information on the next few days.
