Nessie Reid

Nessie Reid is a Political Ecologist with a specific focus on food waste prevention, food sovereignty and food values within both the UK and abroad. She has worked in Indonesia, India, Japan and Europe on local and indigenous communities’ rights to land for growing food, and the preservation of artistic and cultural practices. She now focuses her attention on the social, environmental and political impacts of food production, working as Project Coordinator and Director (currently on sabbatical) for This is Rubbish: a CIC aiming to communicate the preventable scale of food wasted in the UK, through policy research, community and arts led public events. Since February 2015 she has been coordinating Stop The Rot: a food waste reduction campaign targeting the Big 4 supermarkets for supply chain auditing. She is also a performance artist using the arts to bring food and people together, with her latest piece The Milking Parlour: a five day immersive show challenging how and why milk has become cheaper that bottled water.
