2015 archives: FRIDAY EVENTS

It might be the penultimate day of Food Connections but we’re showing no signs of slowing down!

In fact, today kickstarted with perhaps our most energetic event yet - the incredible Tropical Coffee Rave in St Werburghs! And it was no ordinary coffee - the beans travelled to England from the Dominican Republic over the high seas and were expertly roasted by the artisans at Extract Coffee Roasters.

This morning’s Cook ’N Converse was ‘How our attitudes to food are changing’, looking at how people’s eating habits have changed and whether we’ll readopt past food habits and traditional cooking methods over the next few decades.

Meet the Producers’ is an up-close encounter with some of our wonderful local produce. During a 2-hour session, you’ll gain a detailed understanding of the products, processes and benefits involved, and see them applied in live cookery demonstrations. Learn some new recipes, lend a hand with the food prep and enjoy the results with a glass of wine!

And, at Cooking for Carers, participants will learn to make quick, delicious and healthy meals for carers and those they care for.

This evening is the Bristol Pound Night Market in the old city. If you’ve never been to one of their markets, you’re in for a treat! The Night Market will open up Bristol’s Old City in the evening, offering the people of Bristol a fantastic opportunity to use Bristol Pounds to support local independent food traders. The historic Corn Exchange will be transformed; lit up by street performers, local musicians, and fantastic food traders – fun and great food for everyone!

And, if you’re a seafood-lover, don’t miss the Fish Extravaganza! You’ll get to sample a series of small plates featuring seafood from our shores, prepared in many different and delicious ways. This is a great chance to try something new, from seaweed to sashimi.

Tonight at Eat Drink Bristol Fashion it’s the Pride of the West Dinner, with a collaboration of top name chefs from the length and breadth of the region: John Hooker (The Cornish Arms, Tavistock), Russell Brown (Sienna Restaurant, Dorchester); Daniel Moon (Ston Easton Park, Somerset); and Paul O’Neill (Hattusa at Berwick Lodge, Bristol). It’s going to be a serious treat for the tastebuds!

Plus, if you haven’t already done the Thatchers Cider Trail and Food Trail, you’d better get moving! Food Connections special offers and promotions run until this Saturday 9th.
