Let’s Talk About Palm Oil with Katie Major – Brain Snack Session

Can I or can’t I buy products that contain palm oil? Few people know what palm oil is and even less have heard of sustainable palm oil. This controversial topic is often associated with deforestation and orangutans. Does it make sense to completely boycott using products with palm oil? This talk will address the complexities of the palm oil industry, the need to support sustainable palm oil and the work undertaken by Bristol Zoological Society.

Katie Major is the Conservation Psychologist and Campaigns Manager at Bristol Zoological Society. She manages the Supporting Sustainable Palm Oil campaign, leads the Global Alliance for Sustainable Palm Oil, and is part of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria Palm Oil Working Group and UK Roundtable on Sourcing Sustainable Palm Oil.  With an MSc in Primate Conservation, she has also worked with indigenous hunter-gatherers in the Philippines.

Brain Food Series

This event is part of Bristol Food Connections Brain Food series, a vibrant and diverse programme of talks and debates getting us to think more consciously about what we eat.

Paper tickets also available at Colston Hall.

Paper tickets for this event can be purchased in person at the Colston Hall Box Office  Monday – Friday, 10AM – 6PM until 14th June.
