The Food That Connects Us All

Come and share your stories about food that connects us all as human beings. You are welcome to bring poetry, prose, images, or just come to share your experience and thoughts of how growing, preparing or sharing food enriches our relationship with the society around us, helping us find our own place in the world.

We will explore themes of identity, belonging, human rights of migrant workers and refugees through the stories of food. A short documentary The Gardens of St George about an asylum seekers’ allotment project in the St George area of Bristol will be screened. It’s a beautiful story about the allotment used by political asylum seekers from all around the world, as a space where they can come together to learn horticultural skills and where they can enjoy a communal and peaceful space to share with each other. After the film join us in conversation with film maker Alistair Oldham, Christien van der Anker, professor of human rights at UWE, some of the film protagonists and members of Bristol’s vibrant communities. This event is brought to you by Social Science in the City.
