Helping little ones explore and learn about food

Encouraging children to explore and try new foods can be tricky. A recent survey from Organix revealed that 72 per cent of mums in the South West wish there was an easy way to get children to eat lots of fruit and veg.

The Organix Goodies explore tour is coming to Bristol Food Connections to help parents do just that. Setting up in Anchor Square from 3-4 May, children will be given the opportunity to explore new foods as well as other activities that help them learn about food and the world around them for free.

There will be five zones in total allowing kids to explore food, nature, storytime, growing your own and arts and crafts. Children will be able to squish and play with fruits and vegetables, listen to a story, plant their own vegetable seeds or draw their favourite foods.

Lucy Thomas, a children’s food expert working with Organix will be making a guest appearance at the festival to share her tips on making exploring food fun. Commenting, she said: “It’s a natural instinct to want to ensure your child is eating the right food for their development.  I see many parents struggling with feelings of stress, fear and pressure and I try to help them put some fun, excitement and discovery into mealtimes.

“Creating opportunities for parents and children to explore and learn together, means both can explore the fun in food”.

Parents will be able to put up their feet for a while as they watch their little ones explore before taking a Goodies explorer bag home.
